This beautiful greek island won't disappoint you. Stunning architecture in white and blue, mediterranean atmosphere, beaches, amazing sunsets, delicious cuisine and exciting traditions to be explored on the island.
Our hotel was located in Firostefani, which was the best choice for us. It's quieter and less crowded than Thira and Oia, but still enough restaurants and a few stores to get your essentials during your stay. Furthermore there is a very nice path to Thira, which is about a 15 min walk away from Firostefani.
The most famous place of the island is probably Oia. In addition to the variety of restaurants you'll find many shops and luxury boutiques. It's
definitely a place to be and spend some time there. The scenic setting with the beautiful caldera view is incomparable, especially for sunsets. But be aware, thousand of tourists don't wanna miss the "most beautiful sunset" too, so you're not alone. It's recommended to book a table ahead if you wanna have dinner while watching the sunset. Down the path you'll reach Bay of Amoudi the old port of Oia. If you're looking for excellent, fresh seafood we can highly recommend the restaurant "Ammoudi Fish Tavern".
One of our favorite place to explore was the little village Emporio. The Castelli with it's narrow alleys and it's small houses, mostly in white and mediterranean colors, is definitely worth to visit . As it can get really hot in the narrow alleys you won't miss the little café next to the corner, for having a little break with refreshments. Just write your order on a chalk board! How witty is that!
For getting a sea breeze at the beach there are different places, e.g. red beach, black sand beach etc. We loved to relax at Perissa- and Perivolo beach and especially Kamari with many restaurants and a few surf shops.
Another thing you shouldn't miss is the clifftop hiking trail from Thira to Oia. A scenic walk along the cliff, passing luxury hotels, churches and having beautiful views to the Aegean Sea. The whole trail is about 3-4 hours but we passed only a part of it which took us about 1.5 h, so better bring some water with you!
Our secret place for the sunset is right at the other end of the island, at the light house. Same fantastic view, less crowded and it is such fun to drive with a four wheel bike to that point. Take your own drinks and food with you, have a seat on the ground and just enjoy!
